The PPSh-41 (ППШ-41, full name "Pistolet-Pulemyot Shpagina obraztsa 1941 goda," meaning "Shpagin Submachine Gun Model 1941") was a Soviet submachine gun developed and mass-produced during World War II. Designed by Georgy Shpagin, its primary purpose was to replace the earlier PPD-40, which was too costly and complex to manufacture on a large scale.
